A Rare Culi Whole Bean Coffee from Northern Vietnam

Mê Trang’s Pride of Son La is a distinctive Culi whole bean coffee crafted from rare peaberry beans grown in northern Vietnam’s Son La Province. This 100% Culi whole bean coffee showcases a unique varietal where only a single round seed develops inside each coffee cherry. As a result, you experience a denser, more concentrated cup with intensified flavor and bolder character. Furthermore, Culi beans represent only about 5% of any given harvest. Therefore, this product requires careful sorting to isolate the peaberries from regular flat beans. The single-seed structure concentrates the cherry’s full flavor into one round bean. Meanwhile, the higher density allows for more even roasting. Consequently, every cup delivers exceptional intensity and aromatic depth that standard beans simply cannot match.

Sourced from the Moc Chau Highland

We source every bean for this Culi whole bean coffee from partner farms in Son La Province in Vietnam’s northwest mountains. The region sits at 800 to 1,200 meters elevation, far from the more famous Central Highlands. Consequently, the beans develop a distinctly different character shaped by cooler temperatures and unique terroir. Moreover, Son La’s mountainous terrain and limestone-rich soil produce coffee with bright complexity and natural mineral notes. After harvest, our team manually sorts the peaberries from the regular harvest. This labor-intensive process ensures only true Culi beans reach the final product. Then, we apply the natural processing method to maximize the bean’s concentrated sweetness. Finally, we roast each batch to a medium-dark profile that highlights both intensity and complexity.

Tasting Profile and Brewing Recommendations

This Culi whole bean coffee delivers a concentrated, full body with smooth richness and remarkable depth. Meanwhile, the cup features deep dark chocolate, roasted cashew, subtle smoky notes, and a long bittersweet finish. For phin filter brewing, grind to medium-fine and use 22g coffee with 180ml water at 95°C. Alternatively, prepare it as espresso for intensely flavored shots with thick crema. Furthermore, this coffee shines best black, allowing its concentrated character to express fully.
